Natalie Nakasone is the winner of our photography contest 2016 online. Her work under the theme of “loaded” was very refreshing and captured a new take on the word.
Born and raised in Honolulu, Natalie Nakasone is a 31-year-old private school girl who just started learning how to adult. After spending most of her teens and early twenties with her face buried in her grandmother’s photo albums, she bought her first camera, the Canon DSLR & kit lens package deal that was at Costco Hawaii Kai right before spring break in 2004. Since then her process has been a consistent hybrid of film and digital, including five years of wet darkroom study at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and active participation in local film photography collective The Analog Sunshine Recorders. She is currently in Niu Valley, Hawaii, sitting in bumper to bumper traffic typing out this artist bio, reflecting on the truth that important opportunities are often lost due to her perpetual rack of discipline.
