“Our days are numbered. One of the primary goals in our lives should be to prepare for our last day. The legacy we leave is not just in our possessions, but in the quality of our lives. What preparations should we be making now? The greatest waste in all of our earth, which cannot be recycled or reclaimed, is our waste of the time that God has given us each day.”
― Bill Graham

My name is Tien Austin, I’m a senior studying Fine Arts at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. As an aspiring artist I am constantly trying to create things that will leave a lasting impression on the people who come in contact with my work. Everyday I become inspired by the simple things that I think most people overlook because nearly everything is beautiful in someway and I hope that my work can bring that to light.

We offered Tien Austin our first IN A FLASH in our online series because boy does she have an eye for a beautiful picture.  We urge you to check out her work at tienaustin.tumblr.com or follow along on her daily adventures through

IN A FLASH is a series produced by The Manifold Magazine in an attempt to show a week in the life of a variety of different people.  It summarizes a week in photography ranging from polaroids, film, digital, and phone in the perspective of each person.  Although Tien’s IN A FLASH is over the coarse of 2 weeks, the assignment changed slightly to 2 photos per day for a week all in a horizontal format and including 1 self portrait.  Each week is themed for direction. Each photo needs an explanation and an overall statement about your experience with this assignment is recommended.  If you would like to participate in this series fill out the comment form below OR email your submission to TheManifoldMag@gmail.com with the subject title “IN A FLASH”.
